أكد وليد عبدالله، حارس المنتخب السعودي الأول لكرة القدم، أن التصفيات النهائية المؤهلة لمونديال روسيا 2018، صعبة للغاية، مشددًا على ضرورة التعامل مع كل مباراة في التصفيات على أنها نهائي.

ويستعد المنتخب السعودي، الساعي لظهوره الأول في كأس العالم منذ 2006 في ألمانيا، لبدء مباريات المرحلة الأخيرة والحاسمة من تصفيات آسيا باستضافة تايلاند في العاصمة في الأول من الشهر المقبل، ضمن الجولة الأولى للمجموعة الثانية.

وستلتقي السعودية بعدها بخمسة أيام مع العراق، ضمن الجولة الثانية.

وقال عبدالله: "اللقاء الأول يجمعنا بتايلاند وهو بداية المشوار، وإقامته على أرضنا وبين جماهيرنا يسهل المهمة نوعًا ما. نأمل أن يتواجد الجمهور في ملعب الملك فهد الدولي. نحن بحاجة إلى توفيق الله أولاً، ثم حضورهم وبإذن الله نحتفل بأولى الثلاث نقاط في الطريق الأخير قبل المونديال".

وتضم المجموعة الثانية إلى جوار السعودية وتايلاند والعراق، كلاً من الإمارات، وأستراليا، واليابان، ويتأهل صاحبا المركزين الأول والثاني لنهائيات روسيا مباشرة، على أن يخوض صاحبا المركزين الثالث في المجموعة مواجهة فاصلة يلتقي الفائز منها مع بطل منطقة أمريكا الشمالية والوسطى والكاريبي (كونكاكاف).
