In addition to the GNC’s denunciations, a number of key Islamist groups, notably the Mujahadeen Shura Council of Derna (MSCD), have also promised a “harsh response” to Egypt for its unilateral actions within Libya. Indeed, there have been unconfirmed reports suggesting that there is a round-up of Egyptian workers underway in Libya. Media sources have allegedly received information that following the Egyptian and Libyan Army airstrikes on IS positions in Derna, suspected IS and Ansar al Sharia militants are abducting any Egyptian workers. By mid-afternoon on 16 February 2015, there were claims that at least thirty-five Egyptian nationals had been kidnapped. This is a concerning situation for the thousands of Egyptian migrants still within Libya, who had already become increasingly attractive targets for militant groups in recent months.
